How a sauna works, what sets our models apart, which wood we use and why, and everything from installation to health benefits — jump straight to the section you're interested in from the headings below.
A traditional dry sauna is a heat-therapy environment inside a wooden cabin that operates with controlled high temperature and low humidity. Volcanic stones heated by the heater warm the air; the hot air rises to the ceiling, creating a natural air cycle inside the cabin. Dry saunas typically operate at 75–95°C with 10–20% relative humidity; pouring water onto the stones ("löyly") can create brief bursts of humidity, but the room stays dry overall. This is the key difference from steam saunas, which run at up to 100% humidity and lower temperatures.
Differences between our models
Our sauna collection consists of four models: Aura, Modul, Vera and Varil. Each is designed for a different garden size and style of use.

All our models come with a standard electric heater suited to a 380V connection (380/220V for Modul, Vera, Aura); you can opt for a wood-fired or infrared heater instead if you prefer.
Materials: why Nordic Spruce and Thermowood?
Our saunas use Nordic Spruce, which grows slowly with a dense fiber structure in the harsh climate of Northern Europe and the Baltics, along with heat-treated Thermowood. In Thermowood production, timber is processed in an oxygen-free kiln at 180–215°C with controlled steam; this process breaks down the sugar compounds that cause wood to rot, reduces moisture absorption to near zero, and gives the wood lasting resistance to fungus and insect damage. While standard wood warps and shrinks under moisture and temperature changes, wood treated this way keeps its shape for many years — which is why our saunas hold up so well against outdoor weather conditions.
Heater options
All our models come with an electric heater as standard; thanks to the digital control panel, you simply select the target temperature, with no maintenance like chimney cleaning or ash removal required. For cases where electrical infrastructure is difficult or you prefer the traditional experience, we offer an optional wood-fired heater; the radiant heat of a wood fire can bring the cabin to higher temperatures but requires regular chimney cleaning and a supply of dry wood. A third option, an infrared heater, is also available, suited to those who prefer direct radiant warmth at a lower ambient temperature. You can work out with our technical team before ordering which heater best suits your garden's electrical setup.
Installation and garden placement
Our saunas have the status of a portable mobile product and do not require concrete construction. The installation surface simply needs to be flat and solid enough to support the cabin's weight (leveled concrete, paving stones, or a heavy-duty wooden deck). A slight slope or drainage is recommended underneath to prevent water pooling. Electric models require a 380V supply line (380/220V for some models); exact cable/fuse requirements are confirmed by our technical team according to the model before ordering.
When placing it in the garden, consider the prevailing wind direction, sun angle, and neighbor privacy — especially for models with large glass fronts like the Modul, a position that benefits from winter sun and isn't directly exposed to strong wind improves energy efficiency. For wood-fired models, it's important to keep the chimney outlet away from flammable surfaces and tree branches.
Maintenance and cleaning
The sauna interior is naturally sterile and doesn't harbor bacteria due to the high temperature reached during a session. After each session, it's enough to open the door and ventilation openings to let the moisture out. Bleach, hydrochloric acid, or chemical detergents should not be used on the interior surfaces; a damp microfiber cloth or a natural soap solution made for sauna wood should be used instead. Oiling the exterior wood once a year with a natural protective oil keeps its original look for many years.
Health benefits and session length
A sauna bath creates a controlled heat stress in the body that stimulates the circulatory system; the resulting dilation of blood vessels increases blood flow to muscle tissue and can ease muscle tension and joint stiffness. The sense of relaxation that comes with sweating has a positive effect on sleep quality and overall stress levels for many users.
In a cabin at 80–90°C, a single session is usually limited to 10–15 minutes, and even experienced users are advised not to exceed 20 minutes. A common routine is 2–3 rounds with 10–15 minute rest breaks in between; drinking plenty of water after each round to replace fluid loss is important.
While these general wellness effects are widely recognized, a sauna is not a medical treatment; we recommend consulting your doctor regarding your health goals.
Safety precautions
A sauna places a noticeable load on the heart and circulatory system. People with serious heart conditions or a history of uncontrolled high/low blood pressure, as well as pregnant women, should always consult their doctor before using a sauna. Young children should only use the sauna under parental supervision and for short periods. Alcohol should not be consumed before or during a session; if dizziness, nausea, or heart palpitations occur, the session should be ended immediately and followed by rest in a cool environment.
Sauna
Is the product affected by rain and snow outdoors?
Absolutely not. The Nordic Pine we use in our saunas is a material with near-zero moisture absorption that doesn't warp (doesn't change shape). We also use shingle cladding for roof insulation. It can stand safely in your garden even in the harshest winter conditions.
Sauna
What electrical setup is needed for installation?
Wood-stove models don't need electricity (only a simple line for lighting is enough). If you choose an electric stove, it depends on the stove's power (kW): smaller models (up to 6 kW) can run on standard household electricity (single-phase), while larger models may require industrial electricity (three-phase). Our technical team will guide you through this during the ordering process.
Sauna
Is cleaning and maintaining the sauna difficult?
The inside of the sauna is quite sterile due to the high heat and doesn't harbor bacteria. After use, it's enough to leave the door open and ventilate it. No chemical cleaning agents are used inside; wiping with a damp cloth is sufficient. On the exterior wood surface, applying a protective maintenance oil once a year keeps its original color.
Sauna
What is the warranty coverage on your products?
With the assurance of being the manufacturer: the Thermowood timber we use in the sauna body is warranted for 5 years against rot and deformation, and the stove and other electronic equipment for 2 years. Even after the warranty period ends, you can keep using your product for a lifetime by always getting spare parts and technical support from our factory.
Sauna
Do I need a permit from the municipality to install a sauna?
Nordu Saunas are not a concrete structure, but have the status of a "portable mobile product" (similar to a bungalow or tiny house). Since they don't require foundation excavation and can be disassembled and reinstalled, they generally don't require zoning approval or a building permit. They are regarded as a landscape feature of your garden (like a gazebo).
Hot Tub
The Complete Hot Tub Guide
From the heating system to the differences between models, from installation to hydrotherapy, everything you need to know about Nordu Spa hot tubs is here — jump straight to the section you're interested in from the headings.
Our hot tubs offer a hybrid system that combines traditional wood-fired heating with an electric heater. The wood-fired heater brings the water to bathing temperature quickly and independent of the power grid; the heated water expands and creates a natural circulation. The optional electric heater keeps the water at the desired temperature for days, keeping the hot tub ready for use at all times. Heating time varies depending on outdoor temperature and water volume.

On all models the outer shell is made of burnt Nordic Pine or Thermowood lambris, while the interior basin is made of a scratch-resistant acrylic/fiberglass composite material.
Materials and durability
Outdoor hot tubs have to withstand water pressure from the inside as well as moisture, rain, and sun from the outside. We solve this with a two-layer structure: the marine-grade acrylic/fiberglass shell used in the interior basin prevents limescale and algae buildup and guarantees watertightness; the burnt wood used on the frame and facade has high resistance to rot and insect damage. The wood body and acrylic basin are covered by a 5-year manufacturer warranty.
Installation and plumbing
Installing a hot tub doesn't require a complex construction process. The key factor in placement is the surface: flat, solid concrete or a heavy-duty wooden deck capable of supporting the weight of the water-filled product is enough. Filling is done with a standard garden hose, and draining through the integrated drain valve on the body — no fixed plumbing is required. A suitable electrical line is needed for the hydromassage pump, filtration motor, and electric heater; our technical team will confirm the exact requirements based on your preference.
Maintenance and water hygiene
Our hot tubs use a quartz sand filtration system so that you don't have to drain the water after every session; the water is continuously circulated and cleared of particles and organic residue. Periodic cleaning of the filter basket and regular backwashing is all the routine maintenance that's needed. This keeps the water clear for a long time.
Winter use
Hot tubs offer the most comfort during the winter months; the main thing to watch for is the risk of freezing. Keeping the thick thermal cover closed when not in use greatly reduces heat loss. If it won't be used for a long time and the electric heater won't be kept running, fully draining the water from the pipe and pump lines prevents frost cracking.
Hydrotherapy / jet system
Our hydromassage mechanism works by directing water and air pressure at targeted points. Water jets deliver a high-pressure massage that targets tension in back, lower back, and leg muscles, while air jets release micronized air bubbles into the water, stimulating capillary circulation at the skin's surface and creating a light feeling of weightlessness. Jet intensity can be adjusted via controls on the body, depending on the model.
Safe use
It's important that the water temperature not exceed 40°C, with the recommended range for adults kept around 37–39°C. A single session should generally be limited to 15–20 minutes. Children should always use the hot tub under adult supervision, at a lower water temperature and for shorter periods. Keeping the lockable thermal cover closed when not in use prevents uncontrolled access by children and pets. Those with cardiovascular conditions are advised to consult their doctor.
Hot Tub
How are Nordu hot tubs heated? Do they only run on wood?
Our models use hybrid technology. This way, you can get traditional and fast heating with the integrated wood stove, or switch on the electric heater to keep the temperature steady. You can enjoy the ambiance of a wood fire while keeping your water ready for use at all times thanks to the practicality of the electric system.
Hot Tub
Is hot tub maintenance and water cleaning difficult?
No, it's quite easy. The quartz sand filtration system and UV (ultraviolet) hygiene technology in our products continuously circulate the water, clearing it of bacteria and particles. You don't need to change the water every time you use it; the filter system keeps the water clear and clean for a long time.
Hot Tub
Can the products be used outdoors in winter?
Absolutely. Nordu Hot Tub models are designed for Scandinavian climate conditions. The Nordic pine exterior cladding and highly insulated acrylic body minimize heat loss. With the thermal cover closed, it holds the water's heat for a long time and offers garden enjoyment in all four seasons.
Hot Tub
Do I need special plumbing or infrastructure in my garden for installation?
No complex construction process is needed. The surface where the hot tub will be placed just needs to be flat and solid (concrete, deck, or compacted ground). Filling is done with a garden hose, and draining is done easily through the integrated drain valve. A standard electrical line is enough for the electrical equipment.
Hot Tub
Will the wood cladding rot or darken over time?
No. The wood we use on the exterior facade is burnt, heat-treated Nordic Spruce. This treatment increases the wood's resistance to moisture, sun, and insect damage. With the simple periodic oiling maintenance we recommend, it keeps its original look for years.
Hot Tub
Are your products under warranty? Will I have trouble finding spare parts?
All our hot tub models are warranted against manufacturing defects. We offer 5 years on the wood body and acrylic surface, and 2 years on electronic components and heating equipment. Since we're the manufacturer and not an importer, we guarantee we can supply any spare part (filter, jet, gasket, etc.) you might need even years later, immediately from our own stock.
Cold Plunge
The Complete Cold Plunge Guide
What cold therapy is, how our models are cooled, and what to watch for safe use — jump straight to the section you're interested in from the headings.
Cold water immersion is the practice of submerging the body in cold water (usually 3–15°C) for a few minutes. Rooted in Scandinavian winter swimming, this method has become widespread today among athletes, people seeking faster post-workout recovery, and users who adopt cold exposure as part of a general wellness routine. The goal is to stimulate the circulatory system and build mental resilience by exposing the body to a controlled cold shock.

Cooling technology
With an optional chiller (cooling unit) you can cool the water in our models to as low as 3°C — without the hassle of hauling bags of ice. Users who prefer not to add a chiller can also cool the water the traditional way, by adding ice. The particle filter and ozone filtration integrated into the system keep the water continuously clean, whether or not a chiller is used.
Maintenance and water hygiene
In our models, the particle filter and ozone filtration system work together to continuously circulate the water; ozone neutralizes microorganisms in the water while the filter captures physical particles. This means the water doesn't need to be drained after every use, and with regular filter maintenance it stays clear for a long time.
Sauna + cold plunge: contrast therapy
Alternating the heat of the sauna with the cold of the cold plunge is a ritual known as "contrast therapy": blood vessels dilate in the heat and contract rapidly in the cold. This rhythmic cycle is thought to boost circulation and support recovery. A typical routine is a few minutes in the sauna followed by a brief cold immersion, repeated a few times. Combined models from Nordu Spa like the "Sauna and Jakuzi Lux," or separate sauna + cold plunge pairings, bring this experience together in your garden.
Portability and storage
Our cold plunges are plug-and-play units that don't require fixed plumbing; you can easily move them around the garden, on a terrace, or in an enclosed space. The durable material used in the outer shell is resistant to snow and rain; however, in periods with a risk of freezing, draining the water protects the plumbing if the unit won't be used for a long time.
Guide to safe use
Beginners are advised to keep the water milder (e.g. 12–15°C) in their first sessions and limit the duration to 1–2 minutes. As the body adapts, the temperature can be gradually lowered; at around 3°C, time spent in the water shouldn't exceed a few minutes. The feeling of breathlessness that occurs upon entering the water should be managed with calm, controlled breathing. People with serious heart conditions, uncontrolled blood pressure, or circulatory disorders must always consult their doctor before cold water immersion.
Cold Plunge
Do I need to keep adding ice to cool the water?
No, not at all. Nordu Spa cold plunges come with an integrated professional chiller (cooling unit) system. This unit keeps the water at a constant, set temperature (for example, as low as 3°C). Without the hassle of hauling bags of ice, your cold water awaits you, ready to use 24/7.
Cold Plunge
What is the lowest temperature the water can reach?
Our cooling units are capable of cooling the water to as low as 3°C. This is an ideal and quite ambitious level for professional athlete recovery and cold therapy practices such as the Wim Hof method.
Cold Plunge
How long should I stay in the cold plunge?
This varies with personal tolerance, but experts generally recommend between 2 and 5 minutes. At water temperatures of 3–5°C, the brief shock effect is enough to kick-start the body's recovery process.
Cold Plunge
How often do I need to change the water?
You don't need to change the water constantly. The advanced ozone generator and particle filter in our system clean the water through continuous circulation. Ozone destroys bacteria and viruses while the filters capture physical dirt. You can use the water clear and hygienic for months.
Cold Plunge
What are the health benefits of a cold plunge?
Regular exposure to cold water (cold plunge) helps reduce muscle soreness, speeds up post-workout recovery, lowers inflammation (edema), and strengthens the immune system. It also raises dopamine levels, boosting mental focus and energy.
Cold Plunge
What is the interior surface material? Is it plastic?
As Nordu Spa, our quality standards mean we don't use simple plastic tubs. Depending on the model, the interior basin is made of stainless steel or a durable marine-grade composite material. This ensures both hygiene and a lifetime of durability for the product.

Materials & Craftsmanship
Our Manufacturing Process and Material Philosophy
The manufacturing philosophy and material choices behind Nordu Spa's two-generation craftsmanship legacy, going back to 1995.
Every Nordu Spa product begins with the careful selection of top-grade Nordic Spruce logs from the forests of Lithuania and the Baltics. The timber is first brought to low moisture content in drying kilns, then heat-treated at high temperature in Thermowood modification kilns. The processed wood pieces are precisely shaped into interlocking profiles and assembled by hand by our craftsmen — every product comes not from a mass-production mold, but from a workshop culture.
Two generations of craftsmanship
Nordu Spa's manufacturing philosophy dates back to 1995 and a two-generation family craftsmanship legacy reaching to Lithuania, one of Europe's historic centers of woodworking mastery. Our craftsmen, who learned the texture of wood and its response to climate in a traditional workshop culture, blend this knowledge with modern spa engineering. We produce every product with the precision of an individually finished piece that becomes a natural part of the garden.
Sustainability and forest resources
As a manufacturer working with natural wood, we base our raw material supply on sustainable Baltic forest resources. Instead of chemical impregnation agents or toxic solvent-based varnishes, we only use steam-treated Thermowood technology and natural organic oils in production; this means our products remain materials that can return to nature once they reach the end of their service life.
